Hidden text is a black hat SEO tactic where text is placed on a webpage in a way that is readable by search engine crawlers but invisible to human users (e.g., white text on a white background, or text positioned entirely off-screen via CSS). Historically used for keyword stuffing, this manipulative practice is explicitly banned by Google. The algorithm is highly sophisticated and easily detects hidden text, almost always resulting in a severe manual penalty and complete de-indexing of the site. Every word on a page should be designed to drive value for the user, anything less is a liability, not an asset.
