Keyword prominence refers to exactly where a target keyword is placed within the HTML structure and body content of a webpage. It is a critical on-page SEO ranking factor. Search engines assign significantly more weight to keywords that appear in highly prominent, top-level positions, specifically the URL slug, the meta title tag, the H1 header, and the first 100 words of the introductory paragraph. A keyword buried in the footer or the final paragraph of a 2,000-word article signals to Google that the term is merely a tangential mention, not the primary topic of the page.
