Link Exchange
A link exchange (or reciprocal linking) is a manipulative off-page SEO tactic where two webmasters agree to link to each other’s websites with the sole intention of artificially inflating their search engine rankings. While a natural exchange of links between highly relevant, authoritative partners can occur organically, systematic, large-scale link exchanges are a direct violation of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines. The algorithm easily detects these patterns, especially when executed across unrelated domains or through automated link networks, resulting in severe manual actions or algorithmic demotions that can permanently de-index the participating sites.
Link Exchange Simplified
A link exchange is a shady deal where you agree to link to a website only if they link back to yours. Google hates this because it is an attempt to cheat the system, and if they catch you doing it on a large scale, they will penalize your website.
