Keyword Intent
Keyword intent (or search intent) is the underlying psychological goal or purpose behind a user’s search query. It is the single most critical concept in modern SEO. Intent is categorized into four primary buckets: Informational (learning), Navigational (finding a specific site), Commercial (researching options), and Transactional (ready to buy). If a user searches for “best CRM software” (commercial intent), they want a comparison list, not a sales page. If you optimize a sales page for that keyword, Google will refuse to rank it because it violates the user’s intent. Matching content perfectly to keyword intent is a non-negotiable requirement for ranking.

Keyword intent is the real reason someone typed a word into Google. If they type “buy iPhone,” they want a store. If they type “iPhone review,” they want an article. If your webpage doesn’t give them exactly what they want, Google will never rank it.
