Video Schema
Video Schema (VideoObject structured data) is the highly specific, machine-readable code added to a webpage hosting a video to provide Google’s algorithm with explicit details about the content, including the title, description, thumbnail URL, upload date, and duration. Because search engine crawlers cannot “watch” a video, they rely entirely on this schema and the accompanying transcript to understand the context. Implementing Video Schema is mandatory for any brand attempting to rank their proprietary video content within Google’s Video Carousels or the dedicated Google Videos search tab, rather than relying solely on YouTube’s internal algorithm.
Video Schema Simplified
Video Schema is hidden code you add to a video on your website. Because Google’s computers can’t actually watch the video, the code tells Google exactly what the video is about, how long it is, and what the picture should look like. Without this code, Google will completely ignore your video.
